E-commerce major Amazon has announced its entry into the online pharmacy business in India. The US-based company has launched the e-pharmacy in Bengaluru and is likely to launch in a few more cities too.

Amazon is also running a customer satisfaction survey on its website to improve the shopping experience on Amazon Pharmacy.

A news report published on Livemint said, the lockdown and social distancing have prompted customers to use online pharmacy, consultation, medical tests and treatment. Some of the early entrants like Practo, NetMeds, 1mg and Medlife have seen a spurt in volume during the lockdown.

Amazon Pharmacy will offer prescription-based drugs, healthcare devices, home medical supplies and equipment and also healthcare packages.

Amazon’s plan comes at a time when it is witnessing increasing competition from Walmart-owned Flipkart and also the new entrant Reliance JioMart. Jeff Bezos promoted e-commerce major has so far invested over $6.5 billion in India.

Last month Amazon had announced its entry into the financial service segment for insurance distribution. It had partnered general insurance company Acko to sell motor vehicle policies through Amazon Pay.

Earlier in May, the Seattle-based company had also announced its entry into the food delivery segment through Amazon Food.
