Kerala University of Digital Sciences, Innovation and Technology (formerly IIITM-K) inked an MoU with the Alan Turing Institute under the University of Edinburgh. Under the new agreement, the Alan Turing Institute will establish a Centre for Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the Digital Science Park in Thiruvananthapuram.
The proposed Centre aims to foster innovation and research in AI, leveraging the Alan Turing Institute’s expertise and the Digital University’s competency in AI chips and hardware.
“The Centre will focus on the latest advancements in AI and robotics, including generative AI, offer unmatched scalability, and adapt to new scenarios and use cases,” stated a joint press release.
The MoU, signed at the recently concluded Gen AI marks a significant stride in advancing AI research and development between the two institutions.
Earlier, Kerala State Industries Minister Mr. P. Rajeeve, and the Digital University Dean Mr. Alex James exchanged the MoU with Mr. Sethu Vijayakumar, Director for Robotics and AI at Alan Turing Institute and Chair Professor at the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh.
The collaboration underscores a shared commitment to advancing AI research and development, as the Centre for AI at the Digital Science Park will be a hub for cutting-edge research, fostering innovation, and driving economic growth in the region.
Alan Turing is the UK’s national institute for data science and AI, collaborating with universities, businesses, and public institutions to advance the world-changing potential of data science and AI.
Global Investors Meet
Meanwhile, Mr. Rajeeve said the State would host a two-day Global Investors Meet (GIM) on January 14 and 15, 2025 in Kochi. The GIM aims to promote investments from companies across sectors including the AI sector.
The minister also said the government will conduct roadshows in Chennai, Mumbai and New Delhi, besides two such events in the Gulf countries to tap investments from the NRIs.
“A new land development policy of KSIDC will be released this month. In August, policies related to AI, export, logistics and hi-tech manufacturing sectors will also be released,” added Mr. Rajeeve.
