In a first-of-kind, Kerala plans to announce an entrepreneurship index to rank each district based on investments. The index would also reveal the status of industries and investment potential in all 14 districts.

Minister for Industries, Law and Coir Shri P. Rajeeve announced the plan while speaking at the ‘Conclave on Continuing Investments’, organized by Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC).

Based on the investor-friendly pointers, the index will showcase the sectoral opportunities and potential job creation in each district.

“We have modelled this on the health index of our state. The upcoming entrepreneurship index will reveal at one glance the kind of industries that will suit the districts,” said Mr. Rajeeve.

Further, he said Kerala has the lowest rate of industry failures in the country, which was at 15 percent, and was half of the national average.

The State is also proposing to organize investment events from the panchayat level in September and October.

Mr. Rajeeve also said the state garnered close to Rs 12,000 crore of investment from nearly 282 entrepreneurs in the last three years. As per the government during the three years, 30 entrepreneurs invested Rs 50 crore or above.

“To boost the trend, the government is setting up investment facilitation centres at the taluk level, enabling prospective entrepreneurs to wriggle out of red tape beside a prompt resolution of related issues,” he added.

 Vizhinjam Master Plan

The state government is in the final stages of preparing a comprehensive master plan for leveraging the full potential of Vizhinjam Port. The master plan will strategize the utilization of the Port for the advantage of various sectors including medical devices, electronics, and manufacturing sectors.
